TAS: Age faces contempt charges over Randell case
HOBART, Feb 24 AAP - Contempt of court proceedings against the Melbourne Age for identifying
one of international cricket umpire Steve Randell's sex victims started today in the Tasmanian
Supreme Court.
Director of Public Prosecutions Tim Ellis, QC, told Justice Peter Evans that the newspaper
breached the Evidence Act by identifying one of the victims - who was 11 at the time the
offences occurred - in a photograph and story on August 14 last year.
The day before Randell was jailed for four years after being convicted on 15 charges
